Pothole

The reason of this post is nice software for BlackVue (and other cams) - Registrator Viewer.
Caught 100% hit on dashcam into pothole near Shefayim.

You can nicely see all sensors on charts. Notice G sensor at 3.14 peak (pi sign) :-)
Peaks on the left of the charts are regular speed bumps near railroad intersection (see on map on right).

You can see at the end of the video.

Option Connector

Note: This image is not from Mk9 Civic
This will be helpful for those who wants to install dash-cam or any other optional equipment in your lovely Honda.

My colleague at work (by the way, he ordered new Civic with Sport spec yay!) sent me the link
http://www.civinfo.com/wiki/index.php?title=Option_Connector

Turns out, it's very easy to get 12V, ACC and some other pins on Civic. Thank you Honda!

So... let's describe them:
+---------------+
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
+---------------+
| 5 |       | 6 |
+---------------+

1. +12V when reverse gear is engaged, 0V otherwise.
2. A fluctuating voltage which ranges +0.3 < V < +0.8 when ignition is switched, 0V otherwise.
3. +1.3V with sidelights, 0V otherwise.
4. +12V with sidelights, 0V otherwise.
5. +12V constant from battery.
6. +12V switched with ignition, 0V otherwise.

This is how it looks in Mk9 Civic Hatch.
Look for sky-blue connector on left between bottom long horizontal green/white connector and fuses.

Pin #3 is missing
On my Civic pins are a little different.
+---+---+
| 5 | 1 |  1. +12V reverse gear engaged, 0V otherwise
+---+---+  2. empty, missing pin
|   | 2 |  3. +12V ignition on, 0V otherwise
+   +---+  4. +12V sidelights on, 0V otherwise
|   | 3 |  5. +12V key inserted, 0V otherwise
+---+---+  6. +12V constant from battery
| 6 | 4 |
+---+---+

Housing dimensions: 20.36 x 14.12 mm, length 24.08 mm.

Socket dimensions: 2.94 x 2.52 mm.
Approx. pin (male part) wide should be 2.28 mm.

And this is what was connected to it. It's locally installed fog lights harness.
Sticker from connected cable
But, he is a catch.
There is no cheap option on eBay for this piece of plastic. The only option is about $12 - Fuse Box Option Connector for Honda Civic and CR-V. There should be other (read, cheaper) way ;-)

But, people say, we can make similar connector out of regular 8pin 4x2 row.

And I found few cheap ($2-3) similar options that can be trimmed by knife:
TE CONNECTIVITY / AMP - 927366-1 - HOUSING, JR. TIMER, 8 WAY
TE CONNECTIVITY / AMP - 927368-1 - HOUSING, PLUG, 2 ROW, 8 WAY, POLYAMIDE
4CARMEDIA ZRS-104
4CARMEDIA ZRS-148

If you have a lot of time, help us to find similar here
http://octopart.com/partsearch#!?q=plug%208%20contacts%202%20rows
http://www.te.com/catalog/feat/en/c/11315?BML=10576,17687

Also, if you will ask Honda seller to make preparing for external hands-free system (that are still popular in Israel)

You will get most of pins just below glovebox! (found on forum)

UPDATE 2020-09-03
Thanks to Peter from comments, we identified blue connector - Sumitomo 6098-1377.

Bumper Scratch

Okay, bumper, you just not lucky...

While I was in army since 8th of July at operation Protective Edge driving my Mercedes Benz

Two things happened.

First, puncture...

Car was standing on this empty week for about 10 days. Not a big thing. I've came at night to take it, replaced with spare tyre and went home. With air compressor I've pumped it to 1 psi just to get rid of flat tyre until I go to tyre shop.

And second thing, bumper.
I was mobilized to army at 8th of July for Protective Edge operation in Gaza. I parked my Civic near my army base in Tirat ha-Carmel in Haifa 8th at night. Next day in morning some bitch scratched my bumper and drove away!

That is what I found after a week when I came to take my car to another army base in Ramle.

I think it was a woman (because of long hair on video) on Isuzu D-Max, reg. 93-890-13.

I filed "hit and run" report at police about this accident ("Paga ve Barakh").
Will update...

Update (2014-07-27)
The report I've left at the police station in Netanya

They took it and gave me details of the Isuzu: Yakov Maliach company from 4 HaTe'ena St, Elyakhin (not far from Netanya).
מס' רכב 93-890-13
מסוג איסוזו
שייך לחברת: יעקב מליח חיי בע”מ
ח.פ. 511340010
כתובת: אליכין, רח' התאנה 4, מיקוד 38908

I gave that information to my insurance agent. He called them and gave me phone number of contact person to whom I should send recorded video.

Update (2014-07-30)
I called to the company and send video to maliach@maliach.co.il.
They didn't find any collisions between two cars! I asked if they hear any sound at 5th second, they haven't speakers so we ended on that they will watch it again with sound...

Few notes from the conversations with them:
1. They thought it accident was in Tel Aviv and she said that car has tracking system Ituran and on that day and time it was in Haifa. Bingo! Exactly where it happend :-)
2. The driver, Dina, told that she is volontier in Police for 6 years and never in her life did anything like that. I called her lier.

To be continued.
Part 2 of the story.

BlackVue DR500GW-HD WiFi

New car updated with new dashcam (or windshieldcam :-)

Please welcome BlackVue DR500GW.
Got it for several reasons over competitors:
- view angle
- no screen
- variable quality
- linux on board
- settings and monitoring via smartphone app over wifi
- compact design
- gps
- real full hd
- parking mode (with Magic Pro, keep reading)

Manufacturer's preso

One of tons reviews available on YouTube

I placed it near rear mirror. It hidden from direct sun by that perforated mesh.
Cord goes under plastics and there is one place where you can see it - near arm brake it comes out to go into the 12V socket inside armrest.

Now, as I got Power Magic Pro controller that can power up dashcam depends on your settings for parking mode. Just need to install it.

Power Magic will allow dashcam to work longer time preventing battery discharge, because it will cut voltage if it drops below threshold or specific time settings. Parking mode is cool, because it will allow your cam to record 5 sec before and 1 minute after any hit detected by built-in sensors. Think of you leaved a car on parking and someone hit it and ran away.

Of course it will be visible only if front camera will catch it. But there is set with two cams - BlackVue DR550GW-2CH. Like this one but with rear small camera. We ordered this for my friend.

One minor almost accident filmed on my dashcam

Regarding the cost.
Here is fresh price list from my seller Jae from Korea. I bought DR500GW when it cost $250, now it's $210. If you order it to Israel, you should avoid EMS (DHL, FedEx, etc) carrier for delivery as it will go directly to the customs where you will spend extra fees and should pay VAT. There are ways to bypass it.

For $200 you can probably get 4 cheap dashcams from eBay or aliexpress or whatever and put in all 4 directions. It will work. But compare video and features with this one, they all out of league.
One missing feature is that it doesn't rotates horizontally that can be useful when police officer comes to your car from driver's door and you want to film him in case they do bullshit like recently one guy filmed how he stops near stop sign and just around the corner police write him penalty for not stopping :-) 3 times already! He was on evening news with videos. As far as I know, first penalty was canceled and second not.

When I chose, I thought about these models from this Russian thread (and new one) - this is dashcam vids community:
TrendVision TV-Q5NV
teXet DVR-1GP
Mio MiVue 388 Full HD
Neoline Cubex V31
IconBit DVR FHD

Links
Great Russian forums about this dashcam: on taker (already dead thread) and now moved to car-dvr.

Update (2013-10-28)
To compare DR500GW and DR550GW-2CH we did few videos.
You better download sources, YouTube is not so good to find differences "in pixels".

I got in my car DR500GW-HD with firmware v1.008R. It allows you to set maximum bit rate to 10 Mb/s for 1080p and 8 Mb/s for 720p. With custom firmware it can be increased, usually users use 15 Mb/s.
Morning - 720p, Bitrate 8 Mb: YouTube, Source MP4
Night - 720p, Bitrate 8 Mb: YouTube, Source MP4
Example of bigger bitrates from other users on YouTube: 15 Mb, 12 Mb

My friend got DR550GW-2CH with front and rear camera together. Firmware is 1.010R.
Day (front) - 1080p, Bitrate 6 Mb: YouTube, Source MP4
Day (rear) - 720p, Bitrate 2 Mb: YouTube, Source MP4
Night (front) - 1080p, Bitrate 6 Mb YouTube, Source MP4
Night (rear) - 720p, Bitrate 2 Mb: YouTube, Source MP4
